Overview |
Iowa's landscape is one of the most altered ecosystems in the nation - from cities to farms, storm water management is crucial to creating a sustainable environment. This seminar will review the historical hydrological processes, landscape change, watershed based design and opportunities for Low Impact development. The course will cover specific case studies showing how we can mimic our natural systems.
Learning Objectives
- Develop a greater understanding of Iowa’s historic hydrology
- Understand how we can use nature as our model for development
- Promote growth that restores our neighborhoods and connections with the natural environment
- Conceptually understand how sustainable stormwater management can be incorporated into our neighborhoods
- Review the environmental and economical costs of best management practices
- Understand the strategies needed for achieving credits within the Iowa Green Streets criteria and the LEED® Rating system
A “Hands On” review of select Best Management Practices will be available during the presentation. |
