Paint is a detail that can dramatically change a space; unfortunately the interior paints used in most homes today contain volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and other toxic chemicals that are harmful to human health and the environment. Some symptoms of VOC exposure may include nausea, shortness of breath, nose and throat irritation and dizziness. One way to decrease your family's exposure to these health hazards, and to use products that are "green" or better for the environment, is to use paints that contain no (or at least less) toxic compounds.

What Makes Flooring Green?
Natural Paint
Low VOC

5 Considerations for Consumers:

  1. Use nontoxic cleaners to prep the painting surfaces
  2. Use low- or no- VOC interior paint
  3. Look for a paint that does not contain toxic chemicals, including ammonia, crystalline silica, formaldehyde, phthalates and heavy metals
  4. Use premium, quality paint and painting supplies for a better finish and longevity of your tools
  5. Proper disposal of waste water and excess or old paint
