LYNNAE HENTZEN

Executive Director, Co-Founder

Born and raised in Iowa, Lynnae attended college in Denver and the Philippines followed by a journey through S.E. Asia and Europe before finishing her B.A. in sociology at Iowa State University. She earned her M.B.A. at Keller Graduate School of Management in Chicago. Lynnae spent ten years in Chicago as an educator/analyst for the Illinois Supreme Court and business analyst for various organizations in the metro area. Lynnae is a member of board of directors of Iowa Environmental Council and the Governor’s Energy Efficiency Commission. She also serves on the advisory board of Traditional Home Magazine. Lynnae was the recipient of Metro Waste Authority’s Individual Environmental Stewardship award in 2007 and a member of the Greater Des Moines Leadership Institute class of 2007-08 (Best Class Ever!).

 

Outside of work, Lynnae enjoys being with her husband Rob and three kids: Stijn, Grisham and Sasha. Their activities include traveling, working and playing outside, attending soccer games and& cross country meets, gardening, and reading.

 

 

EMILY PERRY

Emily received her B.A. in Biology: Ecology & Systematics from the University of Northern Iowa in 2006. She also received her Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, and Associate of General Studies degrees from Des Moines Area Community College. During college she traveled to Greece and France through the study abroad program. She first started with COSC as an intern while at UNI and began working full time as soon as she graduated.

 

Outside of work, Emily is a part of the Mingo Parks & Rec Committee and works to put on fun events and improve the park, including its softball field, in her hometown. They recently received the KCCI Project MainStreet grant to help with their projects. She also loves spending time with her husband Beau, and their five cats, Lucy, Cheez-it, Rigby, Chloe and Cinder.

 

LESLIE BERCKES

Programming & Development Coordinator

Leslie became involved with COSC in 2005 as a volunteer before being hired full-time in 2009. She earned an M.A. in Public Policy, with an emphasis on environmental policy, and a B.A. in Marketing from the University of Northern Iowa. Leslie has gained valuable experience in her work with environmental organizations, government agencies, and non-profit boards.

 

When not at COSC, Leslie spends time updating her Beaverdale home with her husband, Jeff, and their two cats, Rachel Carson and Aldo Leopold.

 

SIOBHAN SPAIN

Communications Specialist

Siobhan received her B.S. in Business Administration and Art History from the University of Iowa. Professionally, she has worked in communications at the Los Angeles Times and managed an internationally recognized gallery, contemporary art non-profit and artist studio. Siobhan has served on a non-profit board of directors, fundraising event committees and a foundation grant review council. With a family history rooted in Iowa's conservation efforts, Siobhan joins COSC with a sense of purpose.

 

In her personal life, Siobhan and her husband are restoring a 100-year-old schoolhouse. Siobhan swims, cycles, is a contemporary art enthusiast and part-time farmer, which she blogs about at http://TheDirtOnTheFarm.wordpress.com.

 

CARRIE BOYLE

Carrie received her B.A. in Interior Design from the University of Northern Iowa in 2007. Following graduation, she moved to Des Moines and spent two years working as an interior designer. Carrie's interest for sustainable design emerged when she was a student and it continues throughout her career, which brought her to COSC. Carrie joined COSC as a member in 2009 and served on its programming committee. Her Resource Specialist position blends her design background and drive for sustainability.

 

Outside of work, Carrie enjoys jogging and walking through the Des Moines Art Center neighborhood where she resides in her cozy apartment; her hope is to find a fixer-upper home on one of those walks.
